The SCA is the University of Wisconsin - Stout's Student Construction Association. It is composed of a student board with six elected positions, ten to fifteen appointed positions and a large number of general members. Together, with the guidance of faculty advisors, the SCA strives to achieve a number of important goals:
- To provide practical hands on experience.
- To provide members with additional educational experiences outside of the academic curriculum.
- To further educate its members about the construction industry by providing speakers, tours, and seminars.
- To operate without profit where no part of the income of the organization shall contribute to the benefit of any individual member.
There are bimonthly meetings held to keep members informed on the happenings of the organization as well as expose them to a variety of construction topics with the use of speakers from the industry. Student members also have the option of participating in four yearly competitions put on by the association's industry affiliates, ABC, AGC, NAHB and MCAA. A variety of social events such as the annual brat fry and appreciation night along with the different construction projects taken on throughout the year gives SCA members a chance to meet other students in the construction field as well as industry representatives from a number of different companies. Members of the SCA also participate in community service programs like Adopt-A-Highway and the Polar Plunge. Participation in programs like these give members the opportunity to spread the word about the association while they are doing something to give back to the community. All together the Student Construction Association provides many opportunities for its student members to better network with fellow students as well as their future employers in the construction industry.
